Tequa Creek Holdings is named after a creek that runs through central Kansas next to a highway often traveled by the company’s founder years ago. The word ‘Tequa’ is a derivative of the name of a Native American tribe, but it also makes a modern allusion to technology, which is the principle business of the company. The presence of the word ‘Creek’ in the name connotes flow and continuous change, which are hallmarks of our industry and are principles that we must embrace in order to thrive.
Tequa Creek was formed in May 2005 by Robin Bayer as a holding company for several different business ventures that he pursued at the time. Over time the main business has coalesced in to providing upper-end technical and consulting services to customers in a variety of public- and private-sector industries.
Today Tequa Creek is a vibrant company that believes in hiring and retaining people dedicated to excellence in everything we do, while continuously learning how to improve ourselves, the products and services we deliver to our customers, and the communities in which we live. Our operating principles are based on seeking the best possible life/work balance for ourselves, which we believe results in creative product offerings and unparalleled excellence in services we provide to our customers.
What We Do
News magazines and trade periodicals often refer to this being the advent of the "gig economy", promising a much more flexible approach to "working when you want, on what you want". And this new model can provide considerable benefits to those what want a less traditional full-time job, such as parents staying home with children or semi-retired professionals wanting to stay active in their careers. However, the model offered to date is centered around a single individual performing one or more tasks that are largely disconnected from other tasks or others working for the same organization.
This focus and approach can be quite limiting to both the organization requiring the work and the gig worker because larger and more complex projects become extremely difficult or impossible to execute. We see the rise of a new model, which we call "rapidly-forming teams" where individual contributors can quickly organize and pull together creative professionals with the necessary skills to tackle larger projects and even extend their value proposition to time and materials billing, while still honoring the spirit and flexibility that gig economy can provide.
What we discovered was that the administrative burden of establishing these teams can itself become a hurdle to profitability if the project is relatively short-lived because of the time it takes to create the processes and procedures for gathering and presenting time and expense entries. Likely one individual or organization functions as the "prime" contractor to the organization and must collect time and expense entries from the various team members. In turn the team members will then invoice the prime contractor for the work that they do. Sometimes the prime contractor will require that time and expense entry is performed in their own tracking system, requiring the team member to "swivel seat" enter time into both their own tracking system and that of the prime. Aside from the additional work, inaccuracies can arise that are sometimes only discovered at the time of invoicing, after the prime has already invoiced the organization.
We are constructing a platform that simplifies and streamlines the time and expense gathering process for rapidly-forming teams so that the administrative process is already established and team members can track their time and expenses in their own systems and information flows where it needs to the appropriate tracking and accounting systems used by members of the team.
How We Give Back
Over many years in the technology industry we have witnessed a profound and encouraging shift in what drives our customers to excel in their respective careers. For a vast majority of them we find that they are driven to achieve a healthy balance between their work lives and their personal lives, with the latter taking an ever greater role in how they approach their days. More and more of them put their families first, looking for flexibility in working locations and working hours to weave their careers more seamlessly into their lives. And secondly we see a much greater focus on community involvement, whether it is volunteering at a senior center, coaching youth sports, or perhaps teaching disadvantaged students a skill, trade, or artistic endeavor
Because we believe so strongly that building up the communities in which we live, Tequa Creek is intensely dedicated to giving a sizable portion of our earnings to organizations in Lawrence, Kansas where our headquarters is based. We are incredibly fond of our friends at Lawrence Arts Center, Van Go, Inc, and the Boys and Girls Club of Lawrence as the main focus of our donations. Each of these organizations is committed to excellence in what they do and provide invaluable services to our wonderful community.
We highly encourage you to investigate opportunities in your own community to give both financially and with your time to organizations who make a difference and make your community exceptional.
